Summer Clamming

One of our favorite summer activities is digging up fresh clams on island! There are a number of places that you can find them and if you have access to a boat (or kayak or even paddle board!), we like Coatue the best, but any bay-like area is a good place to try.

Once you get home, the world is your oyster clam to prepare! We like to steam them with lots of butter, garlic, and white wine and serve over fresh pasta. You can also pop them on the grill, close the lid for a few minutes, and wait for them to pop open. Try them a bunch of ways and see what you like best!

Make sure that you have a shellfish permit from the Town of Nantucket and all the right gear. You can check out our how-to-shellfish guide HERE.

There are some areas of Nantucket and Madaket Harbors that are closed to shellfishing. Check for signage at beach access points and check the latest maps from the Dept of Marine Fisheries.
