In 2003 a group of islanders established the Nantucket Shellfish Association (NSA) as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve & protect Nantucket’s harbors, water quality, & shellfish fisheries.
For over twenty years NSA has funded & collaborated on research & education for the sustainability of Nantucket shellfish populations.
Additionally NSA has thrown celebration events in honor of our island’s shellfish (oysters, clams, bay scallops) for our year round and seasonal audience.
Each year we provide grants to researchers, scientists, and shellfish farmers, as well as scholarships to students in the marine and environmental sustainability fields.
In mid-2024, we began a new chapter of growth building on our strong organizational foundation by launching NSA Programs.
We believe we have a responsibility to educate our island’s community about the beauty, history, and need for Nantucket shellfish as a sustainable resource. Our audience includes Nantucket year round families, students, boat owners, home owners, as well as seasonal residents & summer visitors.
We thank you for your continued support and we welcome new NSA members, collaborators, and partners in our shared mission to protect Nantucket, our shared island, our shared home.
